Q. Is Travler Free?
A.Traveler is free always has been, always will be. We offer voice chat differant that what you would find in other voice chats. Our voice chat is accompianied by a 3D envirnoment. You are represented in Tech Worlds by your avatar, a virtual representation of yourself. You then can converse with other avatars in 3D envirnments, many of which were created by the users themselves! This communication is very real and very immersive. Your voice is attenuated like it would be in real life. We like to think of it like a virtual cocktail party. You will hear people in the distance talking and they will get louder as you approach. Each space can hold multiple conversations and many times does. We hope that you will give Traveler a try, we think that if you do, you will come to love it like we do.

Q. What is that BONK noise?
A. That noise means you are bumping into another avatar, be careful and move slow. While new users are given the benefit of the doubt, unnecessary bumping becomes annoying after a while. So try your best to avoid bumping.

Q. I'm having a hard time hearing people, what do I do?
A. In Traveler, click EDIT -> SETTINGS, a new window will popup. In the VOLUME tab, move  the "ambient" slider to the very bottom and then move it one pixel up. Do the same with  the "effects" slider. Then move the "voices" slider all the way up. If the background  music is still too loud or too soft, you can then adjust accordingly. You should also increase the volume in Windows. Also keep in mind that traveler is "spatial" just like in  real life. You need to move closer to people if they are too far away. You hear out of your ears on your avatar (or where the ears SHOULD be), so sometimes turning to the left  or to the right helps to increase the volume.

Q. How do I go to another room?
A. There are a few ways to travel from one room to the next. The most popular way is to  travel through portals. If you click on "Portals" at the top of Traveler, it will drop down a list of portals in the room. These portals allow you to travel to other spaces.  If you click on one of the portals in this list, your avatar will start flying toward the  portal and soon you will be traveling through the portal to the next space. Sometimes
your avatar will bump another avatar during the flight toward the portal. Just move away from the other avatar and try again until you get there.

Another way to travel through portals is to enter it directly into the "Address" Bar usually located under the icons at the top of the Traveler window. You need to know the address of the space you wish to travel to though. To travel to the "Welcome" space in Tech Worlds you would enter "http://www.techworlds.org.previewdns.com/welcome.dsv" without the quotes.

There are other complicated ways to travel to spaces, but you will learn these with
more experience of using Traveler.

Q. How do I find other users?
A. Well keep in mind that if you are on the Tech Worlds server, you won't be able to see which users are on other servers. Lets just assume you are on the Tech Worlds Server and want to see where other users are on Tech Worlds. Look at the icons at the top of Digital Space Traveler. Click the icon that looks like two faces with a magnifying glass. We like to call this icon the glass. This will open a new window called "Where is everyone in Tech Worlds? On the left it will show what spaces are currently occupied by users. It will show the Space name and the count (i.e. the number of users in the space). If you single click one of these spaces and look on the right, it will show you the names of the users in the space. Find the space you wish to join and double click it or click it once and click "Enter".

Q. I can't here anyone when I come into a room in Traveler?
A. If you come into Traveler and can't hear anyone talking or see their mouths moving, most likely your firewall/router is blocking the communication to the server. Simply hold down your control (Ctrl) key for a second to open up the port. If you can hear after doing this you will know that you had a firewall/router issue. This is usually only a short term fix. To fix the situation for good you need to go into your router and forward port 3060 udp (by default) to your computer. If you have a firewall you need to approve Traveler and the Digital Space Access Manager. For more information and help find one of the support crew in-world and ask 'em!! Hope this helps.
